What else do I need to know?

How much content should I submit?
Please send as much as you want.  We are looking for long term partners as well as one-off submissions and it will be of significant help to know you if you already have a stash of good material.  Submissions can be anything from multiple page comic strips to one line gags.

What dimensions should my artwork be?

Any size is fine for submissions.  But please note that when published all work will be scaled to fit on pages of standard A4 or A5 size and will most often be viewed on tablet devices.  It must be of good quality resolution and any text must be easily readable at this scale.

What format should I use to submit artwork?
Please submit artwork in either PDF or JPEG format only.  Please also ensure that any scanned or converted format images have come out clearly before you send them.

What format should I use to submit text?

Please submit text in one of the following formats; PDF, MS Word, MS PowerPoint or Plain Text only.  Please do not include text submissions in the body text of an email, you must submit as an attachment.

What is the maximum file size for a submission?

Individual file sizes must be no larger than 2MB and when sending multiple files, the total size must be no larger than 10MB.  Please split across more than one email if you really need to send any more than this.

Can I submit my work by post?
Sorry, no.  We do not accept submissions by post, we are just not set up to deal with it.  It is easiest for us to receive, track and account for all work if everything is sent by email in the formats listed above.

Can I submit work that has already been printed somewhere else?

Yes.  We are not after exclusivity; we are after funny.  So as long as you own the copyright, then go on make your work pay you again.

Do I need to copyright my work before submitting?
No, it’s not necessary, but if you feel safer doing so it’s up to you.  If you do wish to follow up on copyright  we recommend you refer to your official copyright office first, to avoid getting ripped off by unscrupulous on-line companies, please refer to the international list of copyright office websites at the following link:  http://www.wipo.int/directory/en/urls.jsp

Will I receive a reply to my submission?
We review every submission we receive, but due to the large number of submissions we may be unable to respond to every single one.  If we are interested in your work, we will definitely contact you.  However, if you do not hear from us after two or three weeks, you may assume that unfortunately we don’t have a place for your work at this time.  You can always submit again if you wish, if you have new material or if you have improved on an earlier submission.

If I sign a contract with you, do I loose rights to my own work?

No, not at all.  We require that you grant us a non-exclusive licence to use your work.  Your property will remain yours and you will retain full rights to sell and exploit as you wish.

How many pages are you looking for?

In total each e-Magazine will be 24 to 30 pages.  We receive a lot of individual cartoons, these will be most commonly laid out 4-6 per page.  For comic strips there is no minimum length but an absolute maximum of 3 comic book pages per strip.  For jokes, stories and other text a three-quarter page maximum per submission.

What’s the deadline for submissions?

August 2019 for our initial issues.  But even after this we will be looking for ongoing submissions for future publications.

Are you interested in Comics for kids?

So as long as the humour works at adult level as well as at a level for kids, then let us have a look and we’ll let you know.

What do you look for in a submission?
We are looking for comic features that will prompt instant and or prolonged outbursts of laughter!  Unfortunately, we don’t have a formula for which content will do that…However, we can at least try and point you in the right direction:

Be unique.  We want cartoonists and storytellers with a unique view of the world and their own sense of humour.

Be succinct.  Get to the point quickly, waffle is not required.  Less is more!

Create compelling characters.  If your characters are similar to those we’ve all seen before or your characters just lack… well.. character, then it’s probably back to the drawing board… literally.

What are you NOT looking for?

We are not looking for the following:

Ideas for content.  We want completed pieces of work only please

Portfolios from colourists, inkers etc.  We want completed pieces of work only please

Incomplete content or work in progress. We want completed pieces of work only please

...can you see a theme developing here...?

But we also don't want:  Political humour, Smut, Swearing or Adult content.  Yes, this includes even mild swearing, it's just not appropriate for the mass market we are aiming at.

Please feel free to Contact us if you have any other questions we have not addressed here.
